The HES 5200C-LBSM is the fully monitored version of the HES 5200 Complete Pac. It ships as one kit: the 5200 electric strike body, the 501 faceplate for cylindrical locksets in ANSI-prepped metal jambs, the 501A faceplate for cylindrical locksets or spring latches in aluminum frames, the 12 V and 24 V plug-in pigtails, and the trim enhancer. One part number covers metal, wood, and aluminum frames without a second faceplate order. Why LBSM instead of LBM: the LBM version has one switch that reports whether the latchbolt is projected into the keeper. The LBSM adds a second, independent switch on the strike keeper itself, so your access control or alarm panel gets two separate signals: door latched (latchbolt monitor) and strike secured (strike monitor). Specify the LBSM when the system has to prove the opening is actually locked rather than merely closed: high-security doors, doors supervised for forced-entry or held-open alarms, and any door where panel logic needs to tell "latch in" from "keeper locked." If you only need door-closed status, the 5200C-LBM does that for less. Installation: the 5200 series is built around in-frame horizontal adjustability. After the strike is mounted you can move the keeper up to 3/16" toward or away from the door stop to line up with the latchbolt instead of re-cutting the pocket. The body is 1-3/16" deep, non-handed, with an internally mounted solenoid and plug-in connector. It accepts 5/8" to 3/4" throw latchbolts (3/4" with a 1/8" door gap) and uses the standard 4-7/8" ANSI strike preparation with the 501 or 501A faceplate. Fail-safe or fail-secure: the unit ships in fail-secure mode. Converting to fail-safe is a two-screw change on the back of the strike body (loosen, move to the top of the slot, retighten), documented in the HES installation instructions. Electrical: 240 mA at 12 VDC or 120 mA at 24 VDC, continuous duty. 12-16 VAC and 24 VAC are permitted for intermittent duty only (10% maximum duty cycle, 2 minutes maximum on-time), so an AC supply is not suitable for a fail-safe installation. HES specifies a UL 294 Class 2 power-limited supply or a listed access control unit, and recommends inductive-kickback protection (HES 2005M3 SMART Pac III or 2001M bridge rectifier). Both monitor switches are rated 500 mA at 30 V with Common / Normally Open / Normally Closed leads (latchbolt monitor: white / orange / green; strike monitor: brown / blue / yellow). Wire gauge per HES, round trip: 12 VDC uses 18 AWG to 200 ft, 16 AWG to 300 ft, 14 AWG to 400 ft; 24 VDC uses 20 AWG to 200 ft, 18 AWG to 300 ft, 16 AWG to 400 ft. Ratings: ANSI/BHMA A156.31 Grade 1. UL 294 Listed. UL 1034 Burglary-Resistant Listed with 1,500 lbs static strength and 70 ft-lbs dynamic impact. Manufacturer endurance rating 1,000,000 cycles (UL 1034 endurance level 250,000 cycles). RoHS compliant. Per HES, the monitor options were not evaluated under the UL 294 / UL 1034 / ULC-60839-11-1 listings and are designated for indoor use. No fire-rating listing appears on the HES data sheet; confirm with your AHJ before specifying this strike on a fire-rated opening. In the box: 5200 electric strike body (LBSM), 501 faceplate, 501A faceplate, faceplate mounting screws (#12-24 x 1/2"), 12 V and 24 V plug-in pigtails (HES 2007M), trim enhancer with #4-40 screws (HES 5200-105), HES installation instructions. Not included: power supply, lockset, SMART Pac or rectifier, and the 502 / 503 / 504 faceplates (ordered separately for long-plate and wood-frame preps). Does not fit: mortise locks with a deadbolt (see the HES 1006 series), rim exit devices (see HES 9400 / 9600), latchbolts over 3/4" throw, and openings that require a fire-rated strike. New in the unopened HES retail box. Covered by the Rapid Security Hardware 1-Year Guarantee and our 30-day return policy.

5200C-630, 5200C-LBM, or 5200C-LBSM?

All three kits share the same Grade 1 strike body, the same 501 and 501A faceplates, and the same 12 or 24 VDC electrical. The 5200C-630 has no monitoring and is the right choice when the door is simply released by a reader, keypad, or intercom. The LBM adds a latchbolt-position switch for door-status monitoring. The LBSM adds a second switch on the strike keeper so the panel can confirm the strike is locked, not just that the door is closed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the 5200C-LBM and the 5200C-LBSM?

The LBM has one switch that reports latchbolt position. The LBSM has that switch plus a second one on the strike keeper, so the panel can tell "door latched" and "strike locked" apart. Same body, same faceplates, same electrical.

Is it fail-safe or fail-secure?

Both. It ships fail-secure and converts to fail-safe by relocating two screws on the back of the strike body. Fail-safe requires continuous DC power; do not run fail-safe on AC.

Can I power it from 12 V or 24 V?

Either. Two pigtails are in the box; use the one marked for your supply voltage. Draw is 240 mA at 12 VDC and 120 mA at 24 VDC.

What wire gauge do I need?

Per HES, measured round trip: at 12 VDC use 18 AWG up to 200 ft, 16 AWG to 300 ft, 14 AWG to 400 ft. At 24 VDC use 20 AWG up to 200 ft, 18 AWG to 300 ft, 16 AWG to 400 ft.

Does it fit an aluminum storefront door?

Yes, with the included 501A faceplate, for cylindrical locksets or spring latches up to 3/4" throw.

Is it outdoor rated?

The 5200 strike body is UL 1034 listed and suitable for outdoor use. HES states the monitor options (LBM and LBSM) were not evaluated under that listing and lists them for indoor use.

Is this a genuine HES unit and what is the warranty?

Yes. It is new in the sealed HES retail box, serial-logged at intake, and covered by the Rapid Security Hardware 1-Year Guarantee and our 30-day return policy.
